Actions Are Fleeting

What do you hope people remember about you after you’re gone?

That’s easy.

The way I made people feel.

There’s that saying, isn’t there, that “people will forget what you said, they will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel.”

There’s something so fleeting in the memory of actions, but there is a certain permanence in the memory of emotion. When looking back on a memory, sometimes you can hardly remember what someone did to you, but you can remember how they made you feel, no? Good, bad, amazing, disastrous…

Singers use this tool, actors do as well. Sometimes, a simple song can make you feel understood, a simple movie can make you feel sympathetic towards the actor’s character. ‘Earth Song’ by Michael Jackson, ‘Power’ by Kanye West,  ‘Doctor Who’ and even a ‘Never Ending Story’.

You don’t always remember the exact lyrics, you don’t always remember a movie scene by scene, but you remember how it made you feel. And that is what dictates your memory. Emotions.

So, yeah, remember me for how I made you feel.
